In the entertainment field, particularly in feature film, resolving power and the dynamic range and color provided by the bit depth are increasing important considerations for digital cameras. This remains true for high speed, although there is the added consideration of frame rate and maneuverability in the ability to determine the shot.

For general high speed necessities, the current recommendation is the Y5. With its 4 megapixel sensor, this camera can provide 16:9 2K resolution at 730 frames per second. The camera also has light sensitivity equivalent to 1000 ISO color (3000 ISO monochrome) and offers 30 bit color. At roughly 4 lbs, the camera is very maneuverable, and with the rugged build of all IDT cameras, it can withstand less than ideal situations. Like virtually all high speed cameras, the light reactive CMOS sensor is fitted with a Bayer filter, but utilizing IDT's Pixel Pipeline, de-Bayering occurs in camera; another beenefit to Pixel Pipeline is active curves, which provide users with the ability to alter the image in real time using a graphic interface rather than reliance on outdated menu options.

IDT's N5 offers many of the same benefits—Pixel Pipeline, wireless control, 1000 ISO and 30 bit color depth—but in a smaller, more rugged package. Recent improvements in electronics have increased the size of memory available within the compact bodies, and IDT is devoted to making the N5 more and more rugged, ready to face any filming situation. With the minute interocular distance possible between two N5 cameras, providing 3-D high speed video becomes simply a matter of syncing the cameras and placing them on a 3-D ready rig.
