Commissioning of the new cameras took place without any significant changes to the existing facility, except for replacing the HG-2000 J-Boxes on the sled with smaller IDT Hub/Sync units. The Hub/Sync units are mounted on the sled and distribute power and network communications to the N-3's (each Hub/Sync unit has the ability to power and network up to 7 cameras). Power, communication, and trigger are routed though an umbilical that is attached to the sled.

The small size and mass N3 camera allows for the simultaneous capture of multiple views. Unlike other small sized camera systems the N3 cameras can operate independently from a control unit, making it a unique and flexible asset for on-board and off-board automotive testing.

The N-3 at the Delphi Safety Testing Facility in Vandalia, Ohio

Recently, Delphi purchased 9 N-3C imagers to replace the legacy HG-2000's that have been used on-board in the sled facility.

The Delphi Safety Testing facility houses a variety of testing capabilities including airbag deployment, component testing, linear impact, frontal and side sled impact, etc. The sled impact test area uses the first hydraulic sled available in North America, which is capable of 70G's with a 100kg load
